Your eyes use edges, shading and perspective to judge shape. Coordinated artwork across a room corner can encourage you to read a recessed surface as a form projecting outward.
As you move, the view of those fixed surfaces changes. When depth inversion holds, that change can be perceived as movement of the apparent form. The result depends on the artwork, installation and viewing position.
